GRADUATE PROGRAM

Graduate students interested in the pursuit of psychoanalytic, philosophical, neurodiverse, and neuroscientific approaches to literary study may take the First Qualifying Exam in “Literature and Mind” in addition to courses on related topics. Prospective graduate students are encouraged to reach out to faculty and graduate students who share their research interests.

Starting with William James, Sigmund Freud, Charles Darwin, our qualifying exam reading list considers the history of psychology, psychoanalysis, and neuroscience. We incorporate major readings in affect theory, behavioral neurology, memory, new directions in mental health, phenomenology, the medical humanities, and neurodiversity.
